The lived experience of Dupuytren's disease of the hand

Conclusions. The findings revealed that people living with Dupuytren's disease receive little information about their condition and possible treatment from health professionals yet high quality and accurate information is required for patients to understand their condition and the treatment options available.Relevance to clinical practice. Dupuytren's disease

Abstract: Dupuytrens disease is a common condition of the hand found in mature individuals, usually of Northern European extraction. It causes functional impairment through the development of flexion contractures of the fingers, generally on the ulnar side of the hand. Its cause is disputed, but is now thought to have a genetic origin. Surgery is used to relieve deformity and restore function, cure is not anticipated and recurrence is common. Multiple surgical techniques are described and the precise surgical strategy needs to be tailored to the individual patient. Postoperative rehabilitation and patient engagement are required for good results. (Source: Surgery (Medicine Publishing))
